One of my hobbies is sky watching. Yeah, it’s not an official hobby but it’s fun in its own dull way. Where I live there’s this beautiful rooftop view. It’s six stories above the ground and overlooks a wooded river valley. At night I stay up a little longer to star gaze. The sky is so vast. A thousand stars in the deep dark blue all looking down at you. The entire cosmos billions of miles away in its still beauty. You feel a little lost underneath all of it.
Much in life can make us feel this way. There are things we do that make us slowly drift away. What was familiar suddenly seems as far as the stars. All sin makes us feel adrift but sexual sin has a special power to make us feel even farther removed. It’s easy to dismiss the time you stole not so much the time you lost your virginity (pre-maritally) or the first time you watched porn.
Yet at the cross of Christ, we find our way home. We find hope, healing and love. There we can leave all our memories, guilt, shame, addictions and sin. God is not far from us in all our questions and struggles. One of my favorite songs says “If he can hold the stars in place, he can hold my heart the same. Whenever I fall away, whenever I start to break. So here I am lifting up my hands to the one who holds the stars.” ~ Stars by Skillet.
To anyone lost and wandering, there is grace. To anyone not of this belief of sin, grace, Christ etc; stick around to hear a different perspective. You may be surprised by how much more you find. In case you’re wondering why the blog name “Red and White”:
‘Come now, let’s settle this’ says the Lord. ‘Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them white as snow, Though they are red like crimson, I will make them white as wool.’ Isaiah 1:18
This blog will be about sexuality and all the scarlet letter sins it can create but more importantly it is about the designer of our sexuality, the one who makes us snow white. This is the Red and White blog. I hope it will be a blessing to you.
